Tips on How to Model

We always see advertisements and commercial ads almost everywhere – on television, magazines, billboards, newspapers and even online. Sometimes, we dream of picturing ourselves as a model superstar or a famous commercial model. Imagine all the perks you can get – big compensation, loads of freebies, an opportunity to travel, go to elite events and have the power to influence people. All these you can have when you become a successful model enjoying and loving the modeling industry. It is truly a big dream for most of us especially for girls who are dying to look perfect to get a chance in life to have a modeling career.

This dream is possible enough to reach if you have high self-esteem, well driven motivation and discipline. The modeling career is a highly competitive field. To help you prepare and be equipped to the exciting world of modeling, here are some advices and tips for you on how to become a model.

Choose an appropriate model category suitable for your body type and personality. The model industry has a wide range of opportunity for aspiring models. It could range from doing runway modeling, commercial, television, show room, and even body part modeling. Select the most suitable type of modeling you wish to pursue based on your assets and strengths. This will help you get an edge in the competitive area.

Research about modeling and what is it all about. Having a good contextual foundation about modeling can be useful. Try to research on the latest fashion trends, great fashion designers and their line of products. Having a good background and knowledge on what fashion and modeling is about will make you feel more confident in your chosen career.

Make intensive research on the talent scouts and modeling agencies you wish to work for. Have background checks as well as portfolios, achievements and events they have catered and showcased. Be street wise and do not tend to spend a lot time and money on phony scouts and agencies with flattering speeches. Choose a well known agency that can make your modeling career fly. If you have time to spare, you yourself can audition on your own.

Be confident at all times but not over do it. Humility and having a down to earth personality can lead you to great places and have pleasant career. Do not be afraid on all the VTRs and interview that you will undergo. Face all challenges with confidence and open heartedly. Learn from all these experiences to make you a better and stronger model.

Create a portfolio with a variety of your pictures on it. Ask friends who has a background on basic or advanced photography to capture pictures of you in different angles and styles. Photo shoots can be a good way to practice projecting yourself in the camera. Try and play with your own creativeness and personality. In this way, you can know and build your strengths and develop those.  A creative portfolio will serve as your curriculum vitae and tool of success in your modeling gigs.

Modeling is a career of both passion and dedication. It is a widely choice of career for some aspiring model to have a glamorous and fantastic job. Though it is perceived to be only a dream for some, being passionate and having a positive outlook in life will help you reach your own goals and dreams.

Models Who Are Considered Too Thin, Are They Too Skinny?

MODELS

What is too thin? Many people think, too thin is not healthy and does not look good. For many models,  thin is not an issue. The models have to meet certain weight standards to be able to model. Modeling is a job and just like many jobs…you have to meet the companies standards, whether is with weigth, height or dressing standards. Many models are just naturally too thin, while some may feel pressured in being thin.

The body-image researcher Sarah Murnen, professor of psychology at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio says “The promotion of the thin, sexy ideal in our culture has created a situation where the majority of girls and women don’t like their bodies,”  “And body dissatisfaction can lead girls to participate in very unhealthy behaviors to try to control weight.

Girls today, even very young ones, are being bombarded with the message that they need to be super-skinny to be sexy, says psychologist Sharon Lamb, co-author of Packaging Girlhood: Rescuing Our Daughters From Marketers’ Schemes.

We don’t know if they are healthy or not, but people in general, don’t think the frail, fragile look is very feminine, and many people don’t think it’s attractive. “Are they too thin?”

HERE IS A LIST OF MODELS who are CONSIDERED TOO THIN

KATE MOSS ; British model5’7″ and an estimated 100 lbs is considered to be to thin. Seems almost too slight to bear the burden of controversy settling uncomfortably on her too thin body. Kate Moss said in a WWD interview “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” In fact, she says it’s her motto.
Lily Cole ; British modelLily Cole, though she is thin and often thrown into the too-skinny spotlight, Cole fights back confidently saying she is healthy, reported Telegraph. This size zero, 21-year-old who has modeled for labels such as Prada, Moschino and Lacroix refuses to be subjected to criticism.
Lindsay Lohan; actress and model…Lohan blames her weight loss on “working a lot,” stress … and lack of sleep when she travels.
Mischa Barton; as a model and actress Mischa Barton has been described to be too thin. But she said in an interview, “So lately there’s been a lot of crazy press about my weight and just so you guys know I’m happier and healthier than ever so there is no need to worry about me. Things are really well in Mischa world and I’ve just been watching what I eat.
Alessandra Ambrosio;Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio is causing a stir, seeming too skinny to be a model for the lingerie line. The Brazilian-born Ambrosio, 29, looked like she barely had any body fat on her during a March shoot in St. Barths. (Splash News).Barbie Twins; though the Barbie Twins bared their bodies in Playboy, people think the Barbie models are too thin. Models are not to blame for society’s obsession with personal image; many people are saying they, like many women, are victims of an over-emphasis on a waif-like physique.
Natasha Poly;a run way model, the press stirs her too thin body. Many people say this is her job and as long as she keeps herself healthy, too thin is not bad.
Snejana Onopka ; on November 2009 Chris Peake said on Fabric Magazine Models,“While other mags are figuring out their online presence, Numéro Korea shows some amazing photo shoots will do just as well to raise the buzz factor.” Also said that aside from landing the December issue cover, Snejana Onopka proves once again why she’s on top (too skinny comments or not). This Ukrainian model has the unapproachable cool girl down pat.
Hana Soukupova; many people think she doesn’t look anorexic. She looks healthy and at almost six foot tall, her body looks lean.
Natalia Vodianova; The Australian The Heart of the Nation wrote on one of their articles on February 8, 2009 Russian model Natalia Vodianova became obsessed with diet and weight loss. After recovering, her agency received complaints about her weight gain.”

We all know they are paid millions because they are skinny. The question is, is that right?

Dealing with Fashion Dilemmas

Article by Helen Venables

I’m standing next to the little newsagents at the station waiting for my train into London for some retail therapy. The magazines are full of glossy pictures of the new collections for this season, giving advice on the ‘now’ looks and which trends will be ‘big’ this season. As I flick through I suppose the pictures are meant to be inspiring: beautiful models looking great in outfits straight from the catwalk and gorgeous high shoes (I do love my shoes). Far from feeling inspired however, I start to feel confused and wonder what I’m suppose to buy on my shopping trip to see me through next season.

I am meeting up with my ultra trendy sister who works just off Oxford Street and therefore lives, eats and breathes fashion. My sister is younger than me but seems to have out grown me in the trend stakes. She always seems to pop into the high street and come out with armfuls of beautiful clothes that make her look like a real trend setter. My sister offers to help me shop but all day I have a sense of dread in the pit of my stomach. I know that although she can find great buys, I follow her into the same shop and the outfits that are suppose to be on trend just don’t look great on me. After some of my shopping trips with my sister, Oxfam has ended up with a sizeable donation of clothes!

Although we are sisters and are therefore from the same gene pool, our body shapes couldn’t be more different. She is tall and slim while I am petite and curvy. Gone are the days when we could share and swap clothes. Women come in all shapes and sizes, so understanding your own personal body shape is key.

I needed to find out about my body. Fashion magazines are not helpful in that department for someone with my body shape. They always feature tall slim models which can get tiresome as the way clothes hang on these models won’t be the same as on me. Why don’t models have boobs and hips so I can see what the clothes will look like on someone like me? My questions about myself were answered when I went for a Personal Style day with my House of Colour consultant. The things she taught me about my body shape are so much more useful than anything I’ve ever seen in a magazine or even on the makeover shows on TV. It was a revelation to learn about my ‘oblong with curves’ figure and to find out what cuts and styles of clothing suited me. The day also taught me how to express my personality in clothes I wear. It felt great to understand what was really ME!

For me one of the best things was finding out about the Fashion Update which I could get from my consultant. Not only did this give me information on the trends for the season, it told me how to wear the trends for my clothing personality. Hurray at last, comprehensive information on how I can wear fashion trends for my body shape!

Unlike magazines, the Fashion Update didn’t try to fob me off and say I can wear everything, it told me what trends are appropriate for me. It takes trends for the season from the catwalks and shows you how you can adapt the ideas for your own clothing personality. Not all the trends that season were right for me but I had a much better idea on what to look for to highlight the best of my figure and what would make me look on trend in a way I would feel comfortable in. All of a sudden I am just as trendy as my sister. – Result! We might not shop for the same styles or in the same shops but I now know why a style on her doesn’t look good on me and there are some styles she cannot wear that look great on me!

As I board the train I think I might text my sister and change our plans to just catching up over a cappuccino (and maybe shoe shopping!) The next fashion update is due soon so I think I’ll wait for that, then I’ll know which trends will be right for me!

Have a look at an example of our Fashion update to see how it help you with your Fashion Dilemmas

Letter to the Fashion Fairy: How Do I Make Trendy Clothes Look Good on Me?

A: I always follow fashion blogs, read fashion magazines and and just admire people wearing pretty clothes. But for some reason, I feel like when I try something trendy on, even if it is a lot like what other people wear or even if I try to abide by the “rules”, I still do not look as pretty. The same clothes seem to look stunning on other girls but seem unflattering on me.

So I guess what I want to know is how to figure out if something will be flattering for my body type and such. I mean, I am not fat, I’d say I have a slender to average body. I weigh 115 lbs, but I’m short (which to me seems like a factor)–I’m 5’5. My skin tone is a type 4 (Olive/ “Mediterranean”) and I hate that I tan too easily so I feel like I can never wear dark clothes… I really don’t want to get stuck wearing jeans and plain clothes!

-Sarah, 18

Q: Hey, Sarah! Thanks for writing in. First off, I’m excited to answer my first fashion advice letter! (Pause) Celebration over. Time to get to work! Let me start off by saying that you are by no means a hopeless case. Your fears and complaints typify what most girls and women of almost any age worry about when they buy new clothes or simply get dressed in the morning. But learn this: just because something is trendy does NOT mean you have to wear it. Seize the trends that suit you and reject the ones that don’t.

I know you said you don’t want to wear ‘jeans and plain clothes’ but ‘classic’ doesn’t have to translate into ‘boring.’ It doesn’t matter if you have on a simple sweater you’ve owned since seventh grade; what matters is how you combine all the elements of your outfit, from color to texture to fit to silhouette and more. Here’s an example:

Tips Regarding Graphic Design Career

Creative Director
Lets start at the top and work down. Art directors, or Creative Directors are responsible for a creative team that may design work for magazines, television, advertising graphics, websites, or on packaging. A creative team can consist of layout artists, graphic designers, photographers, copywriters, and menial staff to do the work. An Art directors job is to make sure that each of these workers do not slack off down the pub and complete their work to a deadline and to the client’s needs. Art directors also make major decisicions along the lines of should the background be slate grey or cobalt blue, issuing dictates and changing their mind several days after a deadline has passed – leaving co-workers resolutely glum about their position in the grand scheme of things. Art directors will inevitably have come from some kind of marketing or sales background and need no prior graphic design knowledge or skill.

Senior Designer
A Senior Designer is mainly concerned with the visual aspects of a company and will probably have been promoted on the basis that she is fun and a ‘great team player’ (despite this being far from the case). A Senior Designer will usually insist on having a larger widescreen monitor than the rest of the team which will be decorated variously with fluffy pink bits marketing people send through on a daily basis. A Senior Designer will be involved in the elements of a company’s look such as business cards, stationery, packaging design, media advertising graphics, promotional design, and sticking up pictures of topless ‘hunks’.

Graphic Designer
The job of a Graphic Designer is to provide a new and exciting way to express the key information of a company or product through a dynamic image or use of typography. Graphic Designers take the scant information given to them by the client and using the internet to scab some free clip art, fashion their own ripped off logo designs in order to fleece the client for all they are worth.

Layout Artists and Artworkers
The engine room of the design world. These scumbags have been buried away with their dusty macs for decades, remorselessly churning out pages and layouts. Inevitably some clueless muppet will send over a 100 page brochure layed out in microsoft word and it will be the Artworkers thankless task to make it publishable. They will need to recognise a font at 50 yards, be able to colour correct the dreariest of images and take a good bollocking every now and again to keep them on their toes. The Artworker must have the ability to design magazines, design brochures, design flyers, design books and design posters. He harbours murder fantasies.

Illustrators
Illustrators generally speaking will have long greying hair and be influenced by prog rock. Working from home among the dungeon and dragonns figurines and manga comics they will attempt to put their own unique spin on whatever brief they are given. What you will be presented with is a semi clad girl with oversized boobs. You will have waited several weeks for this. You will never learn from previous mistakes.

Web Designers
Web designers create the pages, layout, and graphics for web pages, they will be technically minded to the point of absurdity. They will insist on using c++ coding language to impress other geeks and will beaver away doing whatever it is geeks do for hours on end. Web designers also design and develop the navigation tools of a site which will for design websites involve tiny text that makes your eyes bleed. Web designers are far too clever for their own good and should never be encouraged.
